To keep this short, the Nazis and Soviets hated each other with a passion and the determination of some Russian officers to win against the Germans at any cost shocked some German soldiers!. Despite the August 1939 Non Aggression Pact between the Soviet Union and Nazi Germany, the two sides remained highly mistrustful of each other!. At the end of the war, revenge on the part of the Soviets was an especially brutal part of a very brutal conflict!.

As for the Jews, in short, Stalin was very Anti-Semitic, even before Hitler’s rise in Germany!. He didn’t need Hitler as any excuse to kill the Jews (or anyone else for that matter)!. In fact, his anti-Semitic policies were largely responsible for Stalin’s rise to power!. At Lenin’s death, Stalin was largely unknown and much of the Communist party leadership, including Leon Trotsky, were Jewish!. Anti-Semitism was a drving force in Stalin’s rise to power!.

The soviets were using a well known tactic known as "Kill with borrowed knife"!. During the uprising in warsaw, poland, The soviet red army, all of sudden, stop their advance on Warsaw for 40 days, so the Nazis would put down the uprising and kill the rebels!. Most of the Polish rebels were also anti-communists!. It is possible that Stalin ordered his forces to halt right before entering the city so that the Home Army would not succeed!. Had the Home Army triumphed, the Polish government-in-exile in London would have increased their political and moral legitimacy to reinstate a government of its own, rather than accept a Soviet regime!. Much of the rebels fighting were from the Jewish ghetto and escapees from the concentration camp!. It is well known that Stalin hated Jews!. When His daughter married a jewish man, Stalin didn't evemn show to his daughter's wedding!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Stalin made a pact with Hitler in order to keep his country out of war with Nazi Germany as long as possible!.

Hitler never liked Stalin, the Soviet Union, Communism nor the Russian Jews who lived there!.

Though there was always persecution of Jews in Russia, under the Soviet Union, Jews were protected and since the state did not have a religion, unlike the Russian Empire which was Christian and anti-Jewish, Jews in the Soviet Union lived without fear of Christian pogroms!.

When Hitler invaded the Soviet Union in 1941, as they slogged their way towards Moscow, routine executions of Communists and Jews from Russian towns and villages were almost a daily occurrence by the Nazis!.

Russian Jews answered the Soviet call to arms and joined the struggle against the Nazi invaders, and Stalin brought in a General Zhukov and his Mongolian divisions to defend Moscow!. The Nazis never took Moscow or Saint Petersburg, and thankfully so because Hitler wanted to burn Moscow to the ground and exterminate the entire city's population!.

By the end of the war, the Soviet Union had lost nearly 28 million people, which included Russian Jews!. The Soviets never created separate casualty figures for Jewish dead!. All who died were one people, according to their archives!. Brave Russians defending their homeland!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

You question is not clear but I gather that it deals with the 1939-1941 period when the USSR and Germany had a treaty of non-aggression!. So the question you're asking is whether the Soviet passivity towards the nazi brutality towards the Jews (in Poland) was due to their anti-Semitic sentiments or to other reasons!.

First of all, the Nazi's final solution only started (March 1942) after the invasion of Russia (June 1941)!. So what the Russian troops could gather from the Nazi policies was a violent but old-style anti-Semitic system (gather population in ghettos, rapes, murders, etc!.)!. Nothing really by Eastern European standards!.

That being said had Stalin known about the final solution before the German invasion it is unlikely he would have done anything unfriendly towards Hitler to save the Polish Jews!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Pogroms of Jews were a regular feature of life in Central and Eastern Europe (and also happened, sadly, in England, until the Jews were ejected by Edward I)!. Stalin's behaviour - and that of Soviet Russia after his death were nothing to do with his alliance with Hitler!. He was merely continuing a practise which had gone on in Russia for 100s of years!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Considering the killing and imprisoning of Jews in the Soviet Union didn't stop once Hitler was dead and WWII was over it's a safe bet that they weren't doing it to win favor with the Nazis!. Don't forget, Stalin would starve people just to show them how much power he had so he didn't need a reason to kill people!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
