How about Mary Wollstonecraft, author of the highly controversial (at the time) book, A Vindication of the Rights of Woman!.

When you consider that her book (one of many) was one of the first books on feminism, she was advocating not just freedom of speech for women, but also for their right to be recognized as equal human beings!. This was a big step in 1792!Www@QuestionHome@Com

The two links below will help you - Wikipedia has a LOT of info on anything and everything you might want to know about Freedom of the Speech!. (You can also search for the others - religion, press, assembly and you will find more info than you can imagine!) The other site is a short, simple timeline that traces freedom of speech - it starts early, and gets pretty modern, so hopefully that helps! Good luck!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

a!. you're a woman so in the 1700s, only men have those new rights!.

b!. You might want to look at Margaret Sanger who was arrested more than a half dozen times for speaking about birth control!. And that was less than a hundred years ago!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
