Question: Question concerning the history of the CIA!.!?
One issue I havent figured out that has been troubling me is weither the CIA and more specifically it's "controversial" meddling(covert)in other countries has actually had a positive result for the US!.
Not taking into acount the morality of it's actions but rather the effect it has had on the US!.
Either to change the regime!.
I'm talking of operations such as:
-Operation Ajax
-Operation PBSUCCESS
-Operation Condor
or for miltary purposes like the Phoenix Program!.
Looking at the aftermath many of these action backfired!.
So has this "way" of warfare been generally good for the US,
and are there any exeptions were it did or did not do well!?

The CIA was created from the WWII organization, the Office for Strategic Services (The OSS), which was created during WWII because of the deficiencies in intelligence that led up to WWII!. The OSS mainly worked against the Axis powers during the war, in turn aiding some people who the CIA would later deem enemies of America!.
The OSS armed, trained and supplied Communist Chinese Rebel leader Mao Zhe Dong, and the Viet Minh (which would later become the Viet Cong)!. The ends justified the means, according to the OSS!. The US was anti-Communist, but aided communist whenever it was beneficial to thwart their enemies!.
The OSS during WWII already began a covert operation against the Soviet Union by deciphering their coded messages and not relaying German troop movements or their attack plans to the Soviets!. The Russians lost 28 million people by the end of WWII, thanks in part to the OSS keeping intelligence from them!. A weakened post-war Soviet Union, the OSS felt, was in the US interest!.
Instead, the great losses experienced by Russia included many moderates and reformers, who had they lived they may have changed the course of the Soviet Union a lot sooner!.
So the CIA's history of making situations worse than they already are, goes back to their founders, the OSS!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
