These two references will get you started as far as Arizona is concerned:

http://en!.wikipedia!.org/wiki/Long_Walk_o!.!.!.

http://en!.wikipedia!.org/wiki/Geronimo

If you are thinking of an earlier period and not so far west, then start here:
http://en!.wikipedia!.org/wiki/Trail_of_Te!.!.!.

But be wary of vast generalizations when you study history!. I don't think either California or Utah, for example, shows any history of land wars, and I know of at least four Native American nations now living in the West in the lands they have lived in for centuries - the Havasupai in the western Grand Canyon area; the Tonto O'Odham in southern Arizona; the Gila River peoples near Phoenix (they managed to keep control of their water in the 1850s); and the Hopi on the vast plateau of NE Arizona!. In New Mexico it was different again because the indigenous people were living in Pueblos (towns) by the time anyone connected to the US came along, and they are still there!. Pueblo cultures such as the Zuni are evolving in contact with, rather than absorbed by, mainstream US culture!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
