Oh *sigh*, where to begin!? "Between 1650 and 1770 their (the colonies)gross national product multiplied twenty-five times, increasing at an annual rate of 3!.7 percent, with a per capita increase in wealth that was twice that of Britain's!." "America saw their economy as the essential engine of the British Empire and its future progress!. They believed that Britons across the Atlantic depended on the American economy for their survival, and their conviction was strengthened by the retreat of the imperial authorities in repealing the stamp act of 1766!."

Those in the colonies still believed themselves loyal and faithful citizens of the crown but there were problems brewing!. They wrongly believed that they were building an English Empire upon the land!. Those back in London wanted no such empire!. Their focus was on building an empire on the waves with the world's strongest navy!.

There was no emigration control in England and so, with the figures stated above, it's easy to see why a westward migration into the Ohio River Valley was warranted, the coastal communities were simply getting to be too overcrowded!. The problem then, was that the ORV was owned by the French as per previous agreements with England, and sandwiched between them, were the Native Indians who were used as a buffer!. The colonists had pursued a policy of removing the French from the continent!. Their mindset was in line with Catherine the Great who once lamented that the only way to secure a border is to expand it!. There was just no sharing to be had on this continent!. Back in England, Edmund Burke espoused the notion that sharing was a grand means of a check and balance, lest those in the colonies get too big for their britches!. In Europe after all, sharing of a continent was the norm, not the exception!.

Each time the Americans entered the ORV and committed an act of war against the French (and won), those in England would simply return to the French what was rightfully theirs and a Proclamation Line was drawn in 1763!. This did not set well with the Americans!. "!.!.!.colonial governments were forbidden to grant lands, surveyors were not allowed to operate, no treaties with Indians were to be negotiated, and no land purchases were to be made except by the king's representatives!. Settlers living within the zone had to pull up stakes and leave!."Www@QuestionHome@Com
