The Chaldeans took Babylon and set up the second Babylonian empire in 625 BC, under King Nabopolassar!. The star-studying Chaldeans were to rule Babylonia for 87 brilliant years!. Nabopolassar's son, soon to become Nebuchadnezzar II (reigned 605-562 BC) fought the battle of Carchemish in 60b BC!. There he defeated the remnant of the Assyrian army together with the army of King Necho of Egypt, which fled back home in disarray!.

Soon Nebuchadnezzar's empire xetended from Elam to the borders of Egypt!. It included Syria and Palestine!. The Jewish kingdom of Judea submitted to Nebuchadnezzar, but later unwisely sided with Egypt against him!. He sacked their capital of Jerusalem in 586 BC and deported the population to Babylon - a period in their history known as the Babylonian captivity!. Deliverance came in 539 BC, when Cyrus the Persian defeated the Babylonian army of King Nabonidus!. Babylonia collapsed and was absorbed into the new Persian empire!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
