1) The fastest method of travel at the time was water!. Railroads were not yet a factor!. Practical auto and air transport where more than 100 years away!. The St!.Lawrence River, Great Lakes, Ohio River, and Mississippi river were the main transportation routes for trade!. General Sherman said whoever controls the Ohio, Mississippi, and Missouri rivers controls North America!.

2) France was in a massive war with Britain!. It didn't have a navy capable of challenging the Royal Navy in open battle so it resorted to trade warfare!. Britain was still Americas biggest trading partner even after the revolution!. They wanted to cut Britain's trade to force Britain to peace!.

3) The Kentucky resolutions basically said that states did not have to obey any Federal laws they did not want to!. Basically, it's like the way a country doesn't have to obey any United Nations resolution it doesn't like!. It was a direct challenge to the Supremacy Clause of the constitution!.

4) Each state had a bill of rights, but there was a fear that the central government would use the Supremacy Clause of the constitution to nullify the bill of rights of the states!. They wanted a central bill of rights in the constitution that the Federal Government couldn't override when it felt like it!.

5) They were afraid that absolute power in the hands of one group would lead to abuse!.
