Question: Why were jews the object of Semitism in medieval europe!?
Best Answer - Chosen by Asker:
I think the largest reason was that Medieval Europe was very prone to superstition and religion was a major focus of people's lives!. Jews were suspect simply for not being Christian!. In addition, when things go wrong it is human nature to find someone to blame!. During the Plague for example, it was thought by some that it was punishment by God for tolerating these non-believers, so there was active violence against Jews as a result!. also, money lending was not thought to be Christian, so Jews ended up being lenders, which led to some influence that was resented and distrusted!. Semitism would be the status of being a speaker of a Semitic language such as Arabic or Hebrew!.

They were a different group so they were singled out!. Same history as anywhere on Earth!.

But I do find the term 'anti-semitism' to be grossly overused!. 9/10 people don't even realize what it means!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Perhaps you mean anti-Semitism!?

They were thought to poison wells, cause crops to fail, spread the plague, kill or eat Christians!.!.!. The list is almost endless!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
