Question: What are some of the ways the Anglo-Saxon's culture correlate with today's world!?

The Anglo-Saxons were actually 3 tribes: the Angles, who may have come from Angeln, the Saxons, from Lower Saxony in Germany and the Jutes, from the Jutland peninsula!. They knew themselves as the "Englisc", from which the word "English" comes!. During their reign as Kings (Offa, Alfred the Great, Ethelred and Athelstan) over England (Britain) they maintained a political and territorial unity, especially Athelstan!.

I guess you could say that during this time it was the first political and territorial unity and that expanded into other countries later on!.

The most common example of Anglo-Saxon 'art' is coins!.

Another form of Anglo-Saxon art is mainly known today through illuminated manuscripts, with the decorated initials!. Manuscripts were not the only Anglo-Saxon art form, although they are the most well known to have survived!. Perhaps the best known piece of Anglo-Saxon art is the Bayeux Tapestry which was commissioned by a Norman patron from English artists working in the traditional Anglo-Saxon style!.

Anglo-saxon literature and their manuscripts include bible translations, legal documents and a couple of surviving laws!. The most famous works from this period include the poem Beowulf!.

And then, of course, you have the language: English!. Very important in today's world!. The English language and coins/money are very important nowadays and both come from the Anglo-saxon's culture!.

In popular usage in Canada and the United States, the term "Anglo-Saxon" (as in "White Anglo-Saxon Protestant" or "WASP") has evolved into a politicised term with little connection to its academic definition, as a term for the original West Germanic component of the English language!.

Examples of the Anglo-Saxon's are found all over the world, not just in English-speaking countries, as an influential language, the world's markets, economy, and legal systems!.

Hope this helped you out a bit!?Www@QuestionHome@Com
