Question: Why should students study the new testament at a liberal arts school!?
Best Answer - Chosen by Asker:
The liberal arts school tells me its being used as a great work of literature, not as a religious instrument!. So the question then is why do we read literature!? The NT is a good teaching tool for how certain passages can be interpreted in many ways based on varying literary analysis theories!. I would hope it's in an elective course and not a mandatory reading assignment for all students!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Why not!? It's literature that is important to a large segment of the population, why not become familiar with it!? I am Christian, but I have read the Quran, and translations of the Torah!.

It is better to understand the basis of a religion yourself rather than have it's meaning spoonfed to you!. Www@QuestionHome@Com

Well it is one of the most important documents concerning western culture!.
I do believe the class should look at it for its historical values and not purely religious!.
