Question: The draft !? please help !!!!!!!!!!?
if you left the country during WW II & you were drafted & you did not know it, what would they do to let you know!. I heard if you did not answer the call of the draft it was considered a felony, so say you came back & found out you had been drafted did they consider that a felony !?!? if so what would happen !?

The law required men to maintain a current address on file at their local selective service address ignorance would provide no excuse for having already violated the terms of the act's requirements!. Draft notices were often sent by messenger via Western Union telegraphs in order to confirm deleivery!.

During the war years private travel was greatly restricted, and passport and visa requirements were stringent--unless the departure was meant to be a secretive escape!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

If you were unaware you were drafted, it is not a crime!. It is only a crime if you left the country to evade the draft!. Upon your return, finding out you were drafted, you would explain what happened and set forth to fulfill your obligation!. Www@QuestionHome@Com

I don't know exactly, but they were pretty straightforward about things then!. I think if that happened, and you agreed to just go into the army, they'd be happy to have another recruit and that would be the end of it!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
