Yes obsidian is actually sharper than steel!. Some surgeons actually use scalpels with an obsidian tip when performing delicate surgeries because the edge is alot smoother and sharper than steel!. Some conquistadores also claimed that Aztec obsidian swords could cut the entire head off of a horse!. However, obsidian has its drawbacks on the battlefield!. It is very brittle and can crack or break!. It's also less durable than steel, it can lose it's edge after a while!.

Aztec warriors were definitely very brutal but their warfare was different than other cultures!. They would rather capture their enemies and sacrifice them after the battle instead of killing them right on the battlefield!. This style of warfare left them at a disadvantage when they faced the Conquistadores!. The conquistadores also had many thousands of Indian allies fighting alongside them against the Aztecs and much of the Aztec population had been wiped out or severely weakened before the fighting even began due to European diseases!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Yes!. The Aztec were indeed, very deadly warriors!. They gave the Spanish a serious run for their lives, when they were agitated enough when their king was killed in front of them!.
They were stopped more by the overwhelming alliances the Spanish were able to muster more than anything else, including disease!.

And obsidian is far more sharper than steel or iron can ever be!. Stronger!? It could be, depends on the individual piece of obsidianWww@QuestionHome@Com

obsidian may have been all they needed at that time;the aztec's did
not have a reputation for being peaceful and loving e!.g!. Tibetans
or Yogi's in India or some Native Am Indian Tribes esp in Illinois

obsidian is valued today as a protective gem stone
