Question: Do you think the nazis were successful in winning over the hearts and minds of the German youth!?
Best Answer - Chosen by Asker:
Definately!. They indoctrinated children through schools and the Hitler Youth!.
Every subject in school was Nazi-fied, from History to Maths, Biology and Physics, forcing children to think as Hitler wanted them to!. (eg, a question in a nazi era textbook from germany: In Germany, the people of foreign race are the Jews!. In 1933 the German Reich has 66,060,000 inhabitants!. Of these 499,982 were practising Jews!. How much is that in percent!?)
If a child is raised in these conditions, their minds cannot help but be moulded to the Nazi's world view!. The Hitler Youth also did this by creating a system which forced children to join the group, but also made them want to, as everybody else was a part of it!.

Once Hitler and the Nazi Party took over the Reichstag, it implemented the Hitler Youth!. Physical fitness was the overall goal and of course obedience!. the Hitler Youth (Hitler Juden) was meant for boys and they went on trips similar to the boy scouts!. They were also given German Shepherd puppies to train and raise as their own!. The girls could be in the League of German Girls (Bund Deutscher Madel) where they learned basically how to produce strong babies as well as physical fitness!. At the meetings for the HJ and the BDM, the German youth would be told how perfect it was to be German, they would read Mein Kampf, and would be subjected to Goebbels' propaganda!. Antisemitism was a popular topic at meetings, but it was pushed more as members went further into the organizations!. The next step after the HJ was the SS (Schutzstaffel) for boys (women were to produce babies for the Nazi war machine)!. Upon graduation, the former HJ had to declare undying devotion to Hitler and also had to murder the dog that they had been given to train!. Once this graduation ceremony is over, they were "free" to join the SS and go into its many branches or join the army!.

This is not to say that all of the German youth succumbed to the Nazi propaganda machine!. There were many that resisted!. Not all Germans were Nazis, but it was very hard to resist, especially when those were not Nazis could be persecuted!. The best example of this is the "swing kids" who loved American swing music and American culture during the Nazi era!. Some of them refused to join the HJ and BDM, even as "Aryan" Germans!. They also suffered going to labor camps for their beliefs!. As a teacher, I have encountered students with German relatives, one whose grandmother was not allowed to be in the BDM because her mother was a Social Democrat, not a Nazi (she wanted to be in the BDM because they went on nature trips out of the city she was living in)!.

Watch this Disney produced cartoon from 1942 titled "Hiler's Children: Education for Death!." It has obvious bias, but it gives a good indication of how students in Nazi Germany were taught to be "good soldiers!." It is very reminiscent of some of the meetings of the HJ!. Www@QuestionHome@Com
