Question: History of Elizabeth as a boys name!?!?
I was recently viewing the SSA's website, and looking for uncommon names from 1908 - I came across Elizabeth in the boys column!. I tried a quick google search on boys named Elizabeth, but came up with nothing!.

Can anybody tell me anything about the history of Elizabeth as a boy's name!? What about any other names that would NOT be thought of as a male name, but were/are commonly used as such!?

Thanks!!

I think there must be a mistake there; the name must have been counted as under female names!. I've never heard of Elizabeth being used as a male name, not in all my years of reading social history!.

There are some names we think of as female that are given to boys!. John Wayne's middle name was Marion!. Leslie and Lesley are both male and female, the first being the male version; same with Francis and Frances!. Tracy, Vivian and Beverley can be used for both, and James I of England (VI of Scotland) had a favourite male courtier called Esme!. There is/was a male wrestler named Shirley in the UK!.

Elizabeth for a male confounds me! I think it's too feminine to ever be a male name, except perhaps as a middle name as a nod to a family member or the great Queen Elizabeth I - but even then, I think it's a mistake!.
