This is how my Renaissance Festival works:

The workers and a lot of the patrons are in costumes!.

There are specific people on cast whose main job is to go around and talk to you!. They play with you a bit-- if you want them to play with you, find them and look like you want them to come over to you!. They won't if you immediately look away, because they'll think you're shy!.

They'll use the language of the times!. Basics, in a nutshell:

- Your becomes "thy" (and "thine" when proceeded by a vowel); yours becomes "thine"!. They'll say "my" and "mine" when proceeded by a vowel (i!.e!. My dog, Mine eyes)!. You does not exist: "Thou" and "thee" and "ye" do!. Thou is used properly: "Thou art absolutely delightful to look at, good sir"!. "Ye" is used not so properly!.

- They use "art" as are!.

- They love adjectives!. The basic rule: Why say five words when 20 will do!? "You're pretty" becomes "In the name of my good King Henry the Eighth, thou dost look like he did fall from the tree of the Beautiful and landed upon this land fully bloomed into that of a specimen worth devouring"!.

Most of the stage acts will have people who speak like you do but look like them!. They'll try to get you to see their show!. Do it-- you've no idea how a stage act lives!.

Renaissance Festivals are a lot of fun!. You'll probably like it a lot!. There are lots of shows usually, lots of food (most of it trying to be timely, such as a turkey leg), and lots of street characters who will try to make you their pet!.

Have a lot of fun!!

Expect to go back in time several hundred years!. You won't find modern conveniences - employees don't wear watches - and you won't find computer games anywhere, but you will find Punch and Judy shows, quoits, jousting and other games from ye olden days!. You're going to have fun - they're a hoot!Www@QuestionHome@Com

For someone who loves history, and the romance of the Renaissance, the festival is a big thing!
