This is very wierd because on my ap us summer assignment That was the exact question that was given to me!.!.!.

Some factors that contributed to England’s establishment of colonies was the population of Britain was increasing in the 1500s!. also farmers needed more land for farming and Puritanism began spreading in Western and Eastern England!. The Spanish Armada defeat led to the British swarm to America!. Younger sons who couldn’t inherit money from their parents sought opportunities elsewhere such as the Americas!. All these factors lead to an increase in population thus resulting in colonization!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Factors!.!.!.okay, first off, the Spanish dominance in the "new world"!.
They had been exploring and conquering the new world for YEARS!.
Spain was the dominate power of the world at that time also!.
And enemies of the English!.

The English needed to build some kind of foothold in the new world that didn't include Spain!.

The new world offered unimaginable riches!.
England NEEDED those riches to survive and become a great power!.

Spain had the Catholic Church on their side!.
So did France!.
And the tension between France and England has always been there!.
Italy WAS Rome, therefore, The Church!.

Queen Elizabeth was NOT Catholic!.
All kinds of problems there!.

Once England beat the Spanish Armada they had to keep moving forward!.

They needed fresh supplies!.
They needed wood!.
They needed food!.
They needed gold!.
They needed money!.
They needed to keep an eye on the Spanish and get the French in eye sight also!.
They needed to expand their holdings and empire!.
They needed the business!.
They needed exploring rights!.

England was dead BROKE at that time!.!.!.!.no money whatsoever!.

They did it for power!.!.!.they did it for money!.!.!.!.!.they did it for gold!.!.!.they did it for control!.!.!.!.!.they did it for glory!.!.!.!.and they did it for their separation from the Roman Catholic Church!.
Because they had NO money, glory, gold, control, OR the support of the Roman Catholic Church!.

They basically established colonies in the New World to keep themselves alive and thriving into the future!.

See! Not as hard as you thought! Good Luck!Www@QuestionHome@Com

God, Glory, and Gold!. some left for religious freedom!. others were sent out as Britain became more imperialistic and wanted more territory and power!. and some, especially the spanish, came to north america looking for gold and resources!.

Go AP History!!Www@QuestionHome@Com

Many, many things, primarily overpopulation, but also lust for power, and they saw, at that time, that land meant power!. They wanted their hands out in the world, so they decided that making a colony out in america would be fun/useful!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Umm!. !. !. think resources!. England was interested in America's resources, such as fur, tobacco crops, riches, etc!. Establishing a colony there would be advantageous, giving immediate access to that stuff!.

also competition with Spain and France!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

A better way to ask this question might be "Why did England establish colonies in North America!? Were there political reasons!? Economic reasons!? Fear of world domination by the French or Spanish!?" Think of the question that way!. Good luckWww@QuestionHome@Com
