Best Answer - Chosen by Asker:
His goal was to unite the world after a horrible war!. The points were also designed to make sure WW1 was the "War to end all Wars" one of the major, if not the most major, of the 14 points was the League of Nations, which was the precursor to The United Nations charter!. it may have been successful if the United States had joined but the Congress refused to ratify it!.*Www@QuestionHome@Com

The underlying purpose of the speech was to assure Americans that the war was being fought for a moral cause!. It was the only speech by a combatant nation that set out specific war aims!. Many of the 14 points became terms of the Versailles Treaty more than 10 months later (a treaty that the U!. S!. never signed)!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
