Question: Why didn't Hitler recall Manstein to duty (he saved the army after Sgrad), I have my own idea, what is yours!?
Best Answer - Chosen by Asker:
Manstein was a military genius of the old Prussian school!. Hitler despised these guys!. Hitler demanded that HE the Little Corporal knew how to "run" the greatest conflict in the history of the World better than men who had been trained to do this from the cradle!. Hitler refused to listen to them - he defamed them - he directly contravened their suggestions and, since Manstein was actually willing to speak UP to Hitler and tell him he was WRONG - Manstein was out!.
I think he would have had him shot if Manstein wasn't so revered throughout the entire Officer Corps!. In that event, I think a Military Coup would have taken place!.
As good as this would have been for the Germans - it sure helped us!
That idiot actually invaded RUSSIA!! And people say we don't learn from History!?Www@QuestionHome@Com

Hitler actually discouraged his more competent generals, because he was jealous of them and wanted to seem like the source of all victory!. Additionally, he had very unrealistic ideas about warfare, many arising from his semi-mystical beliefs about his place in history!. This isn't an original idea; many historians have postulated this theory!. Www@QuestionHome@Com

Just read his book, Lost Victories, published in 1959, which a good library will obtain for you!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
