The Brits dominated and tried to assimilate (make all their subjects speak English, adopt British culture); but the Romans tolerantly dominated!. (Even in Carthage area, the old language remained!.) Therefore, the Romans!.

it depends on what criteria you would consider!. the Roman empire is the empire that have made early contributions to ancient civilization, which make its existence vital in history!. the British empire, on the other hand, is a major power during the world wars and their involvement in the wars is vital for the complete success of the allies!. it really depends on what you consider!. both have made good achievements!.

The Roman Empire conquered lands unknown and barbaric to them, as did the British!. The Romans tried to civilize the inhabitants and bring them a new culture, as did the British!. The Roman Empire fell due to rebellion and betrayal, as did the British!. The British empire conquered a 1/4 of the known world!.!.!.but the Romans made all Europe what it is today, gave it one language which can still be seen in french, spanish and english!. I would probably say the British but the technolical and scientific discoveries of the Roman Empire say maybe they were!. If you were talking about militarily the Britain(exept Caesar and probably Gaius Marius)!. Other wise defintally the British!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
