Question: Was the Falklands war
needed !? could have negotiations solved the problem !? Www@QuestionHome@Com

Best Answer - Chosen by Asker:
No, Argentina committed a deliberate act of war by invading the Falklands!. They literally stuck their hand out and asked for it!. They assumed the Falklands was too far from the UK for a military response but were proven wrong!. That's like me robbing your house while you were on holidays!. You'd be mad, if I did that!. The UK were mad that someone had invaded part of their domain!. So yes, the war was necessary!.

You usually negotiate before starting a war!. The Argentinian government of that time was not interested in negotiations, it had internal troubles and was looking for a way to divert the attention of the population, the best way was to start a war!. The Falkland dispute was a very nice way to start a war and be safe as they believed the Brits would not (or could not) react besides protesting!. So the Argentinians just invaded the islands and claimed that now it was theirs and that was that!.

Of course they had tried to claim those islands before, but since the conversation went always this way it went nowhere fast:
A: Those are ours because they are near our coast and we settled there once in 1832!. Get off!
B: Those are ours because we discovered them and you tried to steal them in 1832 and were kicked out, besides the people living there agree with us!. We're staying!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

No!. The Argentinians invaded without notice!. They made it clear they felt the islands were theirs and that they would not leave, this despite the clear indication from the inhabitants that they did not want to live under Argentine rule!. Whatever Argentina may feel about 'Las Malvinas' the fact is that the inhabitants are of British not Argentine descent and there is/was no need to change the status quo out of a misguided feeling of nationalism!. Gabrio is completely wrong in his assertion that the islanders want to be part of Argentina - there is no evidence for this whatsoever!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

no, the negotiations ended when the British troops defeated the Argentinean soldiers, even if they have some planes to strike back!.
The people of the islands wants to be part of Argentina, but they remain as a colony of UK!.
