Instead of a list, I'll prioritize for u!.

Before Martin Luther, the important ones to note are John Huss (who, unlike Luther, was burned for his heresy), and Savanarola, an ultra-conservative cleric in Florence, who called for a return to old values - I think he, too, was burned for heresy!.

The most important groups to mention in the middle ages, before the guys above, are the Cathars, and Bogomils!. ('Buggery' is named after them!.)

The most important 'challengers' of the Reformation, besides Luther, were John Calvin (invented theories of 'predestination', and 'elect of God'- The Puritans were Calvinists), John Knox, and Arthur Svengli!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Oh lets see, all the cathars, john knox, john calvin, wycliff, just about everyone in Romania, the huggenauts, cromwell and his group, westley!. Frankly there was not the universal acceptance that the church and historians seem to think there was!. The church simply eliminated all paradox by executing them as heratics!. Its fairly easy to achieve uniformity if you eliminate all opposition!. But there was plenty!.
Luther became the best known because he really didnt want to leave the church!. He was pointing out where the church was in error!. So Catholic lite was created!. As opposed to Wycliff or calvin who felt the church was so far off that it could not restore itself!. Www@QuestionHome@Com

The Cathars, also known as Albigensians, who practiced a religion of dualism!. They believed that all things of the physical world were evil, while all thing spiritual were good!. They believed in two co-equal gods!. The god of the physical world was Rex Mundi and they viewed him as evil!. The god they worshiped was purely spiritual and had nothing to do with the physical world!.

This meant that the Christian God was viewed as the evil Rex Mundi because he created the physical world!. They denied that Jesus could become incarnate and still be the son of God!. Www@QuestionHome@Com

The Moors in Western Europe!. The traveling peoples before the establishment of the church!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
