Question: What happened to the New Deal coalition during the post WWII decades!? What surplanted it and why!?
Best Answer - Chosen by Asker:
It was a coalition of minorities, including Blacks or African-Ameircan and Jews, working class people, middle class and professionals!. Even small businessmen were part of it!. It was able to keep unity after F!.D!. Roosevelt's death in 1945 through the presidencies of Truman, Eisenhower and Kennedy right up to Lyndon Johnson in the 1960s!. But the Cold War conflicts, the Vietnam war, the mass movement to the suburbs of many White Americans in the late 1950s onward, the African-American civil rights movements, and the alienation of the young "baby boomers" brought an end to this coalition in the late 1970s!. At least it lasted four decades!. And I think the conservative republican coalition is finally breaking up too but let us wait five to ten years and see!.
