It's a process called "rendering"!. Fat globules are cut from the meat, placed in a leathern bag that has been presoaked in water and placed near a fire!. Over time, the fat gets hotter and hotter and the oils seperate from the enlarged fat cells containing them!. A small washing of hot water on the leather maintains it's dampness (which prevents it from scorching or burning from the fire)!. The hot water is obtained simply by putting cold water in a wooden bowl and dropping in a series of hot rocks from the fireplace/firepit and then removing them (with a stick or spoon carved from wood or bone) and placing them back in the fire to re-heat!. As the fat renders, it forms layers!.!.!.a thin clear one that remains liquid at room temperature!.!.!.a thicker and more viscous layer that semi-congeals at room temperature and another thicker layer that can be stored in intestines as a food source or lubricant for later!.

This has been done for thousands and thousands of years!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

i think if you heat it, the oil comes out!.
eg, if you heat butter, it separated into clarified butter, which will stay liquid in the frig, and solids, that make it solid!.

the same is likely true of most any animal fat, or fatty vegetation also!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

That process that you're referring to wasn't discovered until the last 100 years or so!.

You can get room temperature oil from vegetables and fruits and that process has been around for thousands of years - but not in pre-historic times!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Prehistoric man probably had no use for liquid oil!. They could keep grease from animals, useful as fuel, to soften leather, etc!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
