Iran's history is one of unmet potential!.

She SHOULD have been one of the great powers of Asia, but very often, she lost key battles where she had the numbers, but just used the wrong strategy!. Examples:

1) Greek-Persian wars: Herodutus, author of "Peloponsian Wars', acknowledges that Persia lost wars against Greece, not out of lack of strength or courage, but due to poor strategy!.
2)War vs!. Alexander - Alex used the same strategy in each battle; he should have been easy to predict!. Persians, with far greater numbers of troops, should have been able to beat him!.
3)War vs!. Arabs, 8th century!. The Persian empire was destroyed at a battle vs!. the Arabs, despite a commander who had far greater numbers of troops, and the advantage of elephants!.

Just my opinion, but that Persia didn't become a world power really defies the odds!.

EDIT to Naz: Excuse me for disagreeing, but that doesn't defy any odds!. Reality is very chance based!. The Roman, British, Islamic (Caliphates) and Chinese Empires are prime examples!. Of course, this is my subjective opinion on the matter!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
