There have always been means of communication that don't involve precise spoken words; we use plenty of nonverbal communication even today!. Facial expressions, gestures, sounds and objects can all be used to communicate without using spoken word!.
Babies manage to communicate basic needs just fine without using words!. Animals never developed spoken language; but they can communicate with each other without speech too!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Even chimpansees communicate with sounds!. They also use body language and actions even more!.!.!.much of your in person socializing is thru body language, which you may not even realize until it is pointed out to you!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

There's never not been a spoken language!.
