Best Answer - Chosen by Asker: The English Civil War (more properly British Civil War, since Scotland was involved as well) is sometimes called a revolution!. However, the leaders of the armies of parliament did not really want to change the system of government very much, or allow more power to the people or anything, they just wanted to guarantee their own rights as members of parliament!. Radical movements that arose within the parliamentary side, like the Levellers and the Diggers, were ruthlessly crushed!. The only difference between rebellion and revolution is that the rebels win in a revolution!. The most famous was the Peasants Revolt in the 14 th century over taxation but the leader Wat Tyler was taken prisoner and killed and the revolt failed!.
