Question: Does Joan of Arc deserve her reputation!?
To make my question a little more specific, let's compare Joan of Arc to, let's say, the Duke of Wellington!. Was she just as important historically!? Was she as good a leader as Wellington!?Www@QuestionHome@Com

She was a good leader in that she managed to turn a seemingly hopeless situation around and convinced the French nobles to rally around their king!. Remember that at that time being French or English was less important than being vassal to someone so the nobles tended to switch alliance or hold back their help if things looked bad!. Herding goats is easier than herding nobles!. She managed to get them to stand with their king and as the English got knocked about she convinced the French nobles to hold on for another round and the army to fight on!. Which they did, which ended with the French winning the 100 years war in the end!.

Wellington only got lucky once!.

Bob: Arc was the family name, probably the name of the village of one of their ancestors on the paternal side!. The d' (or de) was not at the time a sign of nobility, it only meant 'coming from'!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Her military career was a good deal shorter than Wellington's, and probably not as significant in terms of victories etc!. However, her success at the Siege of Orleans, and her getting the dauphin crowned as King of France was an important turning point in the Hundred years war, and her example put new heart into the French, and although the war went on for another twenty years, I feel that the actions of Joan of Arc were very significant in showing the French that the war could be won!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

I believe she does, she isn't just a leader, but it is important to look at the fact she is a female revolutionary leader, and played a large factor in the change of the way women were looked at especially during the middle ages!. She is definitely my favourite female icon and saint!. Www@QuestionHome@Com

Yes she was!. She might be even better than him!.
While he only won Waterloo because of the Prussian/German General Bluecher, who came to the battlefield, Jean D'Arc was without help of a another general!. Jean was also more inspiration, while Wellington was more skilled at warfare as such!. (although again without Bluecher he would never have won Waterloo, but maybe only received a draw at the most)!.

She was also a leader in an (from England) occupied country, while England was unoccupied by foreign forces and would have remained unoccupied without Wellington!. Wellington was ONE of the most important generals to save the continent, but for Britain Admiral Nelson and the navy were far more important!.

Jean inspired a whole nation, Wellington more his own army!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Good question!.

Put it this way, she is an Icon to all women around the world - as she held her beliefs right to the very end!.

I guess the French could do with a few heroes too!.
And plus, everyone loves a good old English baddy in the history books
