The secrecy around the powerful medieval Order of the Knights Templar, and the speed with which they suddenly disappeared over the space of a few years, has led to many different Knights Templar legends!. These range from rumors about their association with the Holy Grail, to questions about their association with the Freemasons!. Recent speculation about the Templars has further increased because of references to them in bestselling books such as The Da Vinci Code!.

The Knights Templar have become associated with legends concerning secrets and mysteries handed down to the elect from ancient times!. Rumors circulated even during the time of the Templars themselves!. Freemasonic writers added their own speculations in the 19th century, and further fictional embellishments have been added in modern movies such as National Treasure and Kingdom of Heaven, video games, and best-selling novels such as Ivanhoe and The Da Vinci Code!.

Many of the Templar legends are connected with the Order's early occupation of the Temple Mount in Jerusalem, and speculation about what relics the Templars may have found there, such as the Holy Grail or the Ark of the Covenant!. That the Templars were in possession of some relics is certain!.
There was particular interest during the Crusader era in the Holy Grail myth, which was quickly associated with the Templars, even in the 12th century!.

These are the main reasons!

One reason would be that historically, the Templar's were I think the first to invent international banking or just plain banking , The rise and fall of these orders were amazing in themselves !. Mainly the Templar's I think it' because they gained so much wealth and held so much land !. Some of the mystique they held for writers of novels and such are that they still exist as holders of certain secrets !. I think in the past the the absolute size , wealth and influence (some over kings) they had together with the romantic flavour of being pious protectors of the weak has made them so famous !. I think the biggest contributer to them being so well known was the manner and mystery involved in their somewhat abrupt downfall

A simple reason is that the Templars no longer exist!.
The other two orders have survived (of sorts) to the present, and so have been able to counter the sort of nonsense that has been written about the Templars!.

I don't think the Teutonic Order did fight in the Holy land, I thought they were only in the Baltic crusades!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

I would say it's because of their strong connection with religion!. People think that because they have a connection of that sort that makes them more historically important!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

You have an organization known for their military prowess, banking acumen, and organization which disappeared virtually overnight with all their treasure!. Why do you think they are remembered!?
