Not just stars and planets, but think about meteor showers, comets, clouds, thunder and lightning, and of course the brilliant moon!.

Primitive man focused mostly on gathering food!. They were nomadic, wandering the land foraging in small groups!. And they were filled with curiousity!. And they studied the sky!.

The things in the sky were a source of both wonder and fear!. Early man recognized the cyclical patterns!. They saw how the same groups of stars returned each year!. The availability of food followed these cyclical patterns, so they were very important to watch and keep track of!. (Later, when agriculture developed, these cycles told men when to plant!.) They began to attach mystical and religious associations with these patterns!. There must be a higher power controlling it all!. The concept of a more powerful being began to emerge!. The brightest bodies, the Sun, Moon and planets becames special beings!. They moved differently across the sky than the other lights did!. They must have had special powers!.

Unusual astronomical events, like eclipses and comets were attached special significance!. They became messengers of bad things to come!.

Tens of thousands of years before the first prayers were to be written on clay tablets, men looked to the sky for answers!. The sky was the only thing we could not touch!.

The answers must be up there!. In those lights!.
