Question: Many pilgrims died the winter they sailed to America, in large part because of the severe winter weather!.
Why didn't they sail south, to warmer the warmer climate!?Www@QuestionHome@Com

They were, I believe, actually headed for a more southerly location, but in the 17th century, sailing was risky!.

The ships were wind-propelled, so being blown off course was common!. There was also no such thing as GPS!.

Lastly, the Mayflower set sail in September, which was, to me, kind of late in the year!. After all, it wouldn't give the settlers any time to plant any crops, even if they had reached a place further south!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
