Well, as with most things, that depends!. If you get a history degree from an Ivy League college, you could very well end up at a prominent Wall Street investment bank!. On the other hand, if you get a history degree from a smaller regional school, you'll have a much harder time getting people to take you seriously!.

You know, I'm 28 right now, and I did a major career shift when I was 25, so I think I know what I'm talking about, so my general advice is: you're old enough that you shouldn't be thinking about "What degree do I want!?" - you should be thinking about "What job do I want!?" After you figure out what job you want, then you can figure out what degree is going to be most helpful in getting you to where you want to be!. I know it's frustrating to have to pick a career, and it'd be easier to just put off the choice, but at age 25, it's really in your best interest to do so sooner rather than later!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

It's not hard to get a degree in history but, realistically, it won't get you a job!. It might be preparatory to getting a PhD which would put you on track to teach at the college level but you must realize that you cannot write or teach without doing individual research that is the actual "job" you would have rather than "writer" or "teacher"!.

If you're even asking, my guess is that this is not something that will produce what you want!. Study business or engineering and you can get a job in your field after a bachelor's degree ( the "business" major being generic ) but "history" won't do that!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

My college adviser answered "But what would I do with a military history degree" with "Whatever you want to!."

In reality, there aren't that many practical applications for a history major, but that doesn't mean that you can't find one!. If you are passionate about history, pursue it!. If you're looking for a money-maker, look elsewhere!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

It will make you a better citizen as you'll be better informed and understand the world around you!. So that's pretty cool!. You can teach (which is what I do)!. And it will make you popular if you and your friends ever play Trivial Pursuit ;)Www@QuestionHome@Com

If you go above and beyond your bachelors degree, you could be a professor!. Or you could go to teacher's college and be a teacher!. Www@QuestionHome@Com
