On March 10, 1839, Emperor Daoguang appointed Lin Tse-Hsua, the governor of the Chinese province of Hu-Huang to lead the eradication of opium!. Those found guilty of purchasing, possessing or selling opium were sentenced to public execution by strangulation!. “Let no one think,” Lin proclaimed, “that this is only a temporary effort on behalf of the Emperor!. We will persist until the job is finished!.”
Very little opium was grown in China, most opium was grown in British India!.
i found that there were around two million addicts at the time, but no number of those executed or exiledWww@QuestionHome@Com

It′s very unlikely that there will be millions killed - nearly everybody in that time was addicted to Opium!. The expences in China were been nearby the same of the gross domestic product!. Drug dealing was a big income for Europe that time; England and Spain were the biggest seller as far as I know!. There was been two Opium Wars - you can read more at the links below!. The exact number of execution is difficult to find out - the most of executive were addicted and to kill all meaned to destroy the administration which was developed perfectly hundreds of years earlier than in Europe!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
