Gilles de Rais is famous for two things- he was an excellent military commander who repeatedly trashed the English in a time when the English were the dominant military force in the world (as we knew it)
He is also famous for multiple rapes and murders of boys!. In our "politically correct" world puting a label on him would most likely mean a "hate crime"- and I know, logic has nothing to do with it!.
He knew Joan of Arc, cooperated with her and was one of her most reliable allies both in batle and in court politics!. Nothing is known of their personal relationship- except that Joan was a virgin when captured by the English!.
