I'm biased, but I don't see how you could top World War II!. I don't think you could use it as a song because room-temperature politics has so sprung popular images that you'd be hard-pressed to take a side that is not hated by many people!.

All the anti-war troubadours know more than they understand, that works if the spinal cord gets it!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

For me it would be The Battle of Paschendaele also as The Third Battle of Ypres in Belgium in 1917 during WWI

Unfortunately Iron Maiden already wrote a song about it!.

The Battle of the Somme in 1916 was a particularly brutal affair here is a couple of links with info!.

WWI is a great subject for song titles it has not been overdone like WWII and you will help educate others about this often forgotten war!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

The person who picked the Battle of Cowpens got a thumbs up from me!. That would have been my second choice!. Cowpens and the race to the Dan were fascinating occurrences!.

But my favorite battle is Gettysburg!.

Day 1 - The South pushes the North back through town, almost ending the battle on the first day, which might have ended the war!. But they failed to take the high ground!.

Day 2 - The South attacks on their right flank (the North's left) and come within an eyelash of turning the flank!. This would have collapsed the Northern line and the South would rolled them up!. They fell just short of ending it all again!.

Day 3 - Pickett's Charge!. The South concentrates on the North's center!. They are able to drive them back several yards, but the Northern line stiffens and the South is driven back!. Had they punched through the line, they may have been able to drive a wedge and defeat the North!. They instead were defeated!.

Three times the South came very close to defeating the North and possibly winning the war on those three occasions!. Instead, they fell just short and ended up going back to Virginia!. They stayed in the fight almost two more years, but it was essentially over at Gettysburg!.

Another interesting thing about Gettysburg is the way the site has been preserved for historians and history buffs to walk and see where it all took place!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

All of these folks picked good ones!.
I personally like Cowpens (as did one other chap)!. Talk about going against the grain for tactics!.!.!.no wonder Tarleton attacked!.!.!.and really got wiped out
Cannae was interesting too!.
Of course Thermopylae there have been movies about recently!.
Waterloo was interesting (Blucher's part in it - he was the German general that won the thing for Wellington)!.
The Confederates Wilderness campaign really made the northern troops pay and really delayed the war's ending!. On that, General Joseph E!. Johnston of the Confederates!. He was actually very, very good!. He retreated a great deal; but BROTHER did he make the Union pay BIG time for following up on the retreats!.
There are many, many interesting ones!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

I would have to say the Battle of Salamis in 480 B!.C!. where the Greek commander,Themistocles won a decisive naval victory over a much larger fleet of the Persian navy!.
This victory made it possible to buy time for King Leonidas to establish a foothold in the narrow pass at Thermopylae!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

I'd say the Battle of Trenton in the American Revolution!. Before that battle armies would make winter camp and not fight again until the spring!. It was a complete surprise because it was so unusual for an army to engage in battle in the middle of winter!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Cowpens is kind of interesting - lighly trained American force destroys Regular Army English force in South Carolina with interesting tactics!. also very important battle, though often overlooked!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

I'm a fan of the Battle of Bosworth Field (although not the outcome)!. Betrayals, hair's breadth victories, bodies defiled, friends betrayed, a dynasty destroyed and another one started!.!.!. sounds like a real soap to me!Www@QuestionHome@Com

It is difficult to say> Some persons say its Salamine but I think of the battle of merzikert (1071) where Turkish sultan Asp Arslan defeated the Greeks and permit them to annex all minor Asia and further a part of Europe>Www@QuestionHome@Com

The territorial battles between Florence and Siena and how they used black roosters to determine the boundaries between them after years of war!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

That is difficult because, for a start, you will
have to pick a country!. Say you pick England,
you then have to choose a battle!. Do you
pick a medieval battle, or something more
'recent'!.

War is bloody!. Could you not write something
else, instead !?Www@QuestionHome@Com
