Question: I have two unrelated history questions!.!?
Here's the first one!.

1!. If WW2 never started, how long do you think (in your own opinion) the Weimar Republic in Germany would've lasted!?

2!. If the ancient Assyrian army met up with the Roman army (considering that they were the best armies of the ancient world), who would win (again, this is in your own opinion)!?

You may answer one or two or both questions!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Best Answer - Chosen by Asker:
1!. 1933 is usually seen as essentially the ending of the Weimar Republic and as the beginning of Hitler's so-called "Third Reich" - so it ended about six years before the September 1, 1939 start of WWII in Europe!.

Darn good question though!. With the catastrophic economy of post WWI in Germany and the worldwide Great Depression, it seems likely that a strong single leader such as Hitler would have taken over Germany even if that person had not been Adolf!. The Germans of that time were accustomed to autocratic rule!. They would have respected a strong man who said he could fix their problems!.

Germany sure has changed today - with a woman in charge!. I look forward to that occurring in the USA in the near future - though not necessarily (but possibly) in the person of the recent female candidate who came very, very close!.

2!. Romans, Romans, Romans - without a doubt - - if you mean the Assyrian armies of the 7th century BC and not the Parthians of the 1st century BC!.

Bet your life savings - - if you don't have to give up too many points!.

I like the Roman army of Julius Caesar's time best - after the reforms of Marius!. They were professional, well-trained, motivated, and native Italians rather than the less motivated, less professional, less rigorously trained recruits that came from conquered "barbarian" tribes in future Roman armies!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Well, World War 2 didn't cause the Weimar Republic to disintegrate, but if you mean that if there was never a Nazi Party, then it's a very interesting question!. In that case, I would have to say Germany would become a communist state!. There was a significant communist party in Germany, which only failed because the Nazis stomped them out!. Without the Nazis, the Communists would have probably gotten into power right after the Great Depression, after the Germans saw their nation continue to suffer yet see the Soviet Union continue to prosper!.

So I think that without Nazis, the Weimar Republic would last about equally as long!.

I would love to answer the second one, but I'm afraid there are a lot of variables to that question!. First of all, I need an exact date of which time period for both cultures (ex!. Roman Republic or Roman Empire!?)!. Location would also make a huge difference, since it affects the use of long range weaponry, archers, etc!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

#2!. Assyrian!. I'm basing that on a similar encounter that actually happened, between Crassus (Roman) and the Parthian (or, Persian) empire!.

The Parthians relied heavily on their missile troops - archers, troopers, etc!., just like the Romans!. Their tactic - to deal with Crassus's unprovoked, wanton attack - was to engage the Romans in hit-and-run encounters, particularly through their archers!. Though Romans had effective shielding/armor, the Parthians were astute enough to find gaps in them!.!.!.and besides, Roman troops could not wear their full armor 24 hours a day!.

The effects of just minor casualties affected this way caused great harm to the Romans, as many were withdrawn to care for the wounded!. Thus, the Parthians used one of the Roman army's best traits - their solidarity - against them!. The ranks became so demoralized, that hit-and-run attacks were enough to leave a small core, that was quickly decimated - very few returned from Crassus's adventure!.

I believe the same thing would happen to the Romans, if they fought the Assyrians!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

I think the Romans would have beat the Assyrians!. They had better engineering and weapons!.

As far as the Weimar Republic--they would have lasted until Stalin felt like attacking!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

1!. not much longer!. hitler wanted it gone in his third reich- i think!.
2!. assyrian :D!. just going with a hunch on this one!.
