The role of Canadian women during the second world war was much the same as the role of British women, Australian women and women from New Zealand!. They filled the jobs left vacant by men who had enlisted in the army and some joined the military and served, either on the home front or in non-combatant capacities!. They also learned to cope with rationing - food rations, gas rations etc, and shortages of various kinds!. American women did much the same when their country came into the war, several years later!.
