Arriving in the ew World, Cortés executed a successful strategy of allying with some indigenous peoples against the Aztecs!. He also used a native woman, Do?a Marina, as interpreter; she would later bear Cortés a son!.
The smaller towns were subjugated by the Aztecs in Mexico and the Inca in Peru!. On his first trip to Tenochtitlan (now Mexico City) Cortez and his men had to escape in the middle of the night!. on his second trip, he returned with many more warriors from other tribes who wanted to see the Aztecs overthrown!.
