Joan of Arc was not your typical young female saint: she was not a nun or a married woman, and while she did fight to keep her virginity it was not the main thing that got her canonized (setting her apart from medieval figures like St!. Catherine of Alexandria, St!. Margaret of Antioch, etc!.)!. She was full of paradoxes!. A young woman, she led men!. A peasant, she crowned a king (Charles VII of France)!. Though she had no training in military techniques, she led armies into battle (and won a significant number of times)!. An illiterate girl, she confounded and baffled the most scholarly churchmen, prolonging her trial for five months (one against maybe a hundred)!. She wasn’t your typical war-hero saint, visionary (her voices told her to take direct military action), or patriotic saint either!. She was truly blessed and led by God!.Www@QuestionHome@Com She was a young girl who flew in the face of convention when she led French troops in victorious battles against the English during the Hundred Year's War!. Women -- and especially young girls -- simply did NOT take part in war!. She was convicted primarily on political grounds, not necessarily religoius ones, even though her trial was for heresy -- the English had to get rid of her, because she had supported Charles VII, and that flew against Henry VII's claim of the region!. Plus, she was not in the "religious" life, like many of the female saints!. No convents for her! She was too busy running around in men's clothing, leading battles!.
