Seventeen!. The thirteen colonies became the first thirteen states!. Their statehood was based on when they ratified the Constitution, not the end of the Revolution!. Vermont joined as the 14th state in 1791!. Kentucky was number 15 in 1792!. Tennessee became the 16th in 1796!. Then Ohio became the 17th state 1803!. Well actually it's admission was made retroactive in 1953 as the actual admission was note formalized when Ohio joined as a state, but it did join as a state in 1803 and the 1953 authorization made this offical!. No state was then admitted until Lousiana, which became a state in 1812!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
