Question: Has anyone else noticed that we are in war less than 20 (give or take) after the previous war!?
looke at World 2!.!.!.it wasnt even 10 years when Korean War happened!.!.!.then it was about less than 20 years that Vietnam happened!.

the only big jumps are War of 1812 and Civil War and then World War 1!.

why are we in war less than 20 (give or take) after the previous war, so many times!? i know some of the wars, were out of duty as being allies to other countries but, do we have like some kind of leading record in war fighting!?

are we in the end fighting for the same reason, just with different countries!?

i guess the term "history repeats itself" definitely applies here!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

General MacArthur said it best in his farewell speech at West Point in 1963!.!."Only the dead have seen the end of war!."

Sad I know but it is true!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

I don't think the US has ever gone more than about thirty years without a major war!. You've even fought amongst yourselves (civil war)!.

Between the War of 1812 and the Civil war, there was war between the US and Mexico, which won the territory of Texas!. Between the Civil War and WW 1, the US fought Spain and won Puerto Rico, Cuba and the Phillipines!.

Oddly enough, the US seems almost proud of the Civil war, on both the winning and losing side!. And it's not always profitable!. The US has lost just as many wars as it's won!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

You forgot the Mexican-American War in the 1840's and the multitude of Indian Wars!.

I really don't think that the US is more prone to war than any of the other major powers!. Most of Europe has been at war for the past millenium!. And the "Pax Romanum" mentioned by someone else was maybe true for Rome itself, but the empire was constantly having frontier wars to maintain that peace!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Yes, I have noticed!. When you throw in Panama and Granada plus the skirmishes with England over a pig in the San Juan Islands of Washington State, the Bay of Pigs fiasco, our clandestine support of Iran-Contra, not to mention the Mexican American and Spanish-American wars, the longest period may have been between WWI and WWII!.

You have to ask, do we feel morally superior to other nations!? Or are we driven by capitalism to protect our resources near and far!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

War is so popular in this country, because it's so profitable, and the persons that profit from it don't have to pay its cost!. Read the book, "War Is A Racket," by Major General Smedley D!. Butler, online at this site:

Because it is a nasty and evil world and we have to protect ourselves AND our interests and also help to protect our allies worldwide wherever they might be!.
You need to understand-if we didnt fight these wars, if we hadnt fought back in WW2 for instance, you wouldnt be typing this today!. Its not a nice Kittens and Puppies world out there-its a bad place!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

If you look even closer you will see we (The USA ) has always been at war or in conflict with other countries!. Check out a list of conflicts the USA has used military and Americans have lost their lifes!. We don't fight for Freedom!. That's just what the government tells the people to get them behind the war!. We fight for money and control!. and we have always been a warring nationWww@QuestionHome@Com

It's worse than that!.!.!. AmeriKa is the WORST WAR MONGERING NATION IN THE WORLD!.!.!. AmeriKa has had 21 YEARS of WAR for EVERY YEAR of peace since 1776!.!.!. That is why Amerika is thought of as the world's school yard bully!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Well, I had kinda noticed the 20 year rule before, but there's exceptions, the period of Roman rule meant there was 400 years of "Pax Romana" in Europe!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

This is what Eisenhower warned the world against - the military /industrial corporations which must have war or the threat of war to create a constant demand for their products which become increasingly more expensive!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Technically, the last war we engaged in was the Gulf War in 1993!. Some consider the War in Iraq, The Second Gulf War!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Pax Romana comprised of "put up with Rome's domination of your land and people, abuse and stealing persons for slaves of Rome and gladiators and tax payors, or else Rome will fight to the death until they get what they want" THAT does NOT really count as true PEACE !

As far as the more current question, war is for the economy!. I loved the truth the other answerer wrote:

"for profit, and the persons that profit from it don't have to pay its cost" (cost of destruction of cities, loss of civilians and normal lifestyle of ensured safe living, loss of homes and property and finances and factories and infrastructure)Www@QuestionHome@Com

Before the Europeans got here the Amerindians had constant inter tribal wars with the Azetcs and Incas carving out LARGE empires and making slaves of everyone around them!.

Europe has had almost constant wars right up until today, as has Asia!.

As for the person who answered that the U!.S!. lost about as many wars as we won:

The Revolution: won
War of 1812: a draw
Mexican War: won
Civil War: doesn't count since it wasn't against a foreign power (But the United States won and the Confederate States lost)!.
Spanish American war: won
WWI: our allies won
WWII: our allies won
Korean War: U!.N!. chickened out- no winner
Viet Nam: lost
First Gulf War: we stopped before it was won
Second Gulf War: still engagedWww@QuestionHome@Com

We've had various reasons for entering into our conflicts:
French and Indian War: 1754-1763- a part of the world-wide struggle between Spain, France and Britain to gain land!. This time in North America between France and Britain involving the colonists and allied Indian tribes!.
Revolutionary War: 1775-1781- our founding fathers wanting to be free of the British monarchy and to govern themselves!.
Indian Wars: 1790-1891- series of battles and campaigns fought over land ownership between settlers and native tribes!.
War with France: 1797-1801- fought entirely at sea to protect US merchant shipping
War of 1812: 1812-1815- supposedly fought over Britain's taking of US seamen at sea into British service, but also an attempted land grab at Canada and Florida!.
Texas Revolution: 1835-1836- Texans (not the US) fought for and gained their independence from Mexico
Mexican War:1846-1847- The US annexed Texas and Mexico viewed this as an act of war
Civil War: 1861-1865- the right of the federal government to make policies for individual states, slavery
Spanish-American War: 1898- land grab for the Phillipines and Cuba from a deteriorating Spanish Empire!. We had to take it before the Germans or Japanese did, right!?
World War 1: 1914-1918- We entered in 1917 after Germany retaliated against our arms-trading by sinking our ships!. Germany had also made plans to have Mexico invade the US!. Helping our allies while helping ourselves!.
World War 2:1939-1945- We entered in 1941 after Japan's attack on Pearl Harbor and Germany's declaration of war against the US!. Japan and Germany were carving out their own empires at the time!. also involved helping out our allies in order to help ourselves!.
Korean War:1950-1953- Japanese forces surrendering after WW2 did so to the Russians north of the 38th parallel and to the US south of the 38th!. Once the cold war between east and west began, conflict here was a foregone conclusion!.
Vietnam: 1962-1975- another sideshow war resulting from the dominant cold war between the Soviet Union, China, and the USA!. Lack of strategy on the US part and a popular uprising against the conflict led to our early withdrawal!.
Greneda: 1983- invasion to restore the lawful government and protect US citizens
Panama:1989- Protect US citizens and property, capture Manuel Noriega, establish a US-recognized government
Desert Storm: 1990-1991- To restore Kuwaiti sovereignty and to deny Iraq ant further advances into allied Saudi Arabia
Somalia:1992-1994- part of a UN force to stop widespread civil war and return stability to the region
Afghanistan: 2001-present - Invasion to remove Taliban and Al Qaeda from power after attacks on World Trade Centers!.
Iraqi Freedom: 2003 - present -Invasion of Iraq to remove Saddam Hussein from power, to neutralize weapons of mass destruction (yet to be found), to neutralize terrorist elements (ongoing), to secure Iraqi oilfields, and to establish a US-recognized government in power!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
