The first major camp, Majdanek, was discovered by the advancing Soviets on July 23, 1944!. Auschwitz was liberated, also by the Soviets, on January 27, 1945; Buchenwald by the Americans on April 11; Bergen-Belsen by the British on April 15; Dachau by the Americans on April 29; Ravensbrück by the Soviets on the same day; Mauthausen by the Americans on May 5; and Theresienstadt by the Soviets on May 8!.[193] Treblinka, Sobibor, and Belzec were never liberated, but were destroyed by the Nazis in 1943!.
In most of the camps discovered by the Soviets, almost all the prisoners had already been removed, leaving only a few thousand alive—7,000 inmates were found in Auschwitz, including 180 children who had been experimented on by doctors!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

The holocaust survivors are basically those prisoners of the Nazi concentration camps who lived through the ordeal and were rescued by the liberating armies!! They were liberated in the eastern part of europe by the invading Russians and in the west by allied forces!! basically the camps were abandoned ,the guards fled or even hid among the prisoners!!
Eventhough there were rumors and stories filtering back to america and britain about the camps-little believed in their existence or did not care -a hot button issue even today!!
The armies of the west virtually stumbled upon or were directed toward the camps by the citizenry but there did not appear to be a strategy or action of direct liberation directed toward these people!!
When discovered ,then all kinds of aid ,medical attention etc!. were given them!!! There are volumes on the subject !!!!Www@QuestionHome@Com

The Americans, Russians, French, English, and Canadians!. Barack Obama's uncle, his grandmother's brother, helped liberate Buchenwald!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

umm!.!.!. they didn't
when the allies discovered previous concentration camps they would occasionally let the people go, but more often they would turn them into displaced persons and leave them in the camps and provide them with red cross food parcels for years, making them remain in the places they had been tortured because the Jews (and others) had no homes or possesions or money after most people had confiscated it!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

As allied troops conquered more territories they sat the prisoners free along the way ,but not without food and warmth!. They would not feed them a lot at one time because it could upset their stomachs!. The History channel as a bunch of information on anything!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Yup!. The Allied forces happened to find the camps!. Most often, the German forces in charge of these camps were aware the Allies were close, and often left the camps just a day or two prior!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
