I am very much at a disadvantage!. I am trying to get moved (several states away in the U!.S!.) and for now all my library except some very recent additions is in storage!. But I believe it was the Sabeans!. While the further back in history we go the less we can know with any certainty how and why any group believed, taught or acted as they did, I do believe there are some indications of why certain things were taught!. It also becomes more vague just when a particular existed and I am sure many vanished with no current trace known and maybe none left!. It is tickling the edges of my memory and if it comes to the surface while this question is still active, I will add that as an edit!. Some, Jews and Christians in particular, might point out that it comes from the Torah or Old Testament, but I believe it predates that!. The Sabean culture flourished (as I remember) from about 5000 B!.C!.E!. to about a thousand years later, and there are some indications they had at least an influence on the Native American tribes as well as a presence in what we call the Middle East today!. It is my personal belief that there is a very strong connection between the Sabeans and the Jewish culture and religion of early Old Testament times, and I would even suggest they both drew from the same source of inspiration, that is the same God!. While there are not many left, I believe there are still followers of the Sabean religion left today!.

While it may be difficult to make a sure connection today, I suspect that the adoption of a seven-day week was related to number symbolism (gematria) and had a much deeper significance for the ancients who adopted it than it has for us today!. Since it is easier for me to refer to the Bible, and since in the areas where this answer is most likely to be read it is also the best known if not most accepted Holy book, I will refer to that for a few examples!. Note that there twelve Jewish tribes, twelve apostles, twelve months in a solar year, and Genesis 17:20 states, "And as for Ishmael, I have heard thee: Behold, I have blessed him, and will make him fruitful, and will multiply him exceedingly; twelve princes shall he beget, and I will make him a great nation!." These are just a few of the less veiled ones!. Genesis 15:8-9 is one that I strongly feel has a hidden meaning and connection with very recent events!. It says, "And he(Abraham) said, LORD God, whereby shall I know that I shall inherit it!? 15:9 And he said unto him, Take me an heifer of three years old, and a she goat of three years old, and a ram of three years old, and a turtledove, and a young pigeon!."

If you are not familiar with reduction, or Cabalistic contraction, in gematria, you add each number up, and if it is over ten, keep doing so until you get a single digit number!. For example, 666 = 6 + 6 + 6 = 18; 1 + 8 = 9!. Time, times and a half ( equaling 1260) is mentioned is several places in the Bible and very obviously in Revelation 12!. 1 + 2 + 6 + 0 = 9!. If you take 52 (the number of weeks in a year) and reduce, it is 7, and seven is a very significant number in many religions!. I think that the number 9 is very arguably the most significant umber in the Bible, and I also think it no coincidence that the number is the symbol for the Baha'i Faith!. Nine, being the largest single digit number is a sign of completion, and the Baha'i Faith proclaims that the Adamic age, or age of prophecy has now come to an end and it is time for mankind to build the world peace that has been promised for thousands of years!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

hmmm!.!.!.well there's pretty good evidence that most pre-historic cultures had calenders that kept track of months and years!.!.!. and theres a pretty good way to keep track of days based on that bright yellow orb the appears in the east and disappears in west in cyclical pattern!.!.!.!.So then it was just a matter of dividing the months into easily manageable groupings of days I guess!.!.!.

so my answer is!.!.!.I dont know!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

I think you got that backwards!.!.!. Do you mean who divided the year into weeks!? Or who divided weeks into days!?Www@QuestionHome@Com
