Best Answer - Chosen by Asker:
The reason: The United States Senate did not ratify the treaty!. This is outlined in Article 2, section 2 of the US Constitution!.Ratification of a treaty required two-thirds of the Senate!. The American People did not want to be involved with Europe's constant infighting!. Most of the opposition to the treaty centered around Article 10 of the League of Nations Treaty!. Article 10 supposedly allowed for Americans to be used to fight other nations wars!. opposition was strong to this in Isolationist America, and doomed the treaties support in the USA despite prominent support!.

Progressive era -
- no income tax would have been passed (until probably sometime after World War II)
- it would have taken even longer for women to earn the right to vote in national elections
- Woodrow Wilson would not have been elected president in 1912
- the effort to make alcohol illegal would have probably failedWww@QuestionHome@Com

In 1919, most of USA, and especially the politicians, saw WW1 as an aberration in foreign policy!. The Monroe Doctrine from 1823, had said that European powers were no longer to colonize or interfere with the affairs of the independent nations of the Americas!. In return, the United States would stay neutral in wars between European powers and their colonies!. The USA entry into WW1 in April 1917 was seen as a regrettable mistake and counter to agreed national policy!.

A few members of Congress saw further than the Monroe doctrine, including Woodrow Wilson, but they were in a minority and the general public wished to see a return to isolationism in foreign affairs!. Simply, too many American boys had died trying to sort out the European squabble!. A return to neutrality and isolation meant having nothing to do with the League of Nations!.

By the end of WW1, Progressivism 1880-1920 was viewed by most of the press and maybe the majority of Americans as an experiment that led to 120,000 soldiers dying and 250,000 wounded!. Without the Progressive Era, USA would not have entered the War, the European combatants would have become exhausted in 1917, some sort of peace would have been found by June 1917, and all those extra lives would have been saved!. Progressivism prolonged WW1!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

The Senate would not allow it!. Ironically it was America's idea but they wern't allowed to join because America didn't want it!. Says it all doesn't it!Www@QuestionHome@Com
