Hi D275!.
I am surprised you didn't receive a reading list or even prescribed text books!.
You should check with the Course Director, as purchasing books which may not even be you course could prove expensive!.
On the other hand some books which I found invaluable as a point of reference are as follows:
International History of the Twentieth Century and Beyond
By Antony Best, Jussi Hanhim?ki, Joseph A!. Maiolo, Kirsten E!. Schulze ;This major global history of the twentieth century is written by four prominent international historians for first-year undergraduate level and upward!.
American Civilization
An Introduction
By John Oakland, David Mauk
Thoroughly revised, this fourth edition of a hugely successful text provides students of American studies with the perfect background and introductory information on contemporary America!.
A History of the World
From the 20th to the 21st Century
By J!.A!.S!. Grenville
This second edition has been thoroughly updated and includes discussions on 9/11 and the second Gulf War, and takes into account the latest historical research!.
I hope these are enough for you to go on!.
Good luck my friend,

It depends on the part if History you're studying!. There is no one all-encompassing text book but I found that 'Worlds Together Worlds Apart' was really good at giving bite-sized (and sometimes bigger than bite-sized)accounts of historical events around the world from the Industrial Revolution in England to Ming China to slavery to the Holocaust!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Um, what history!?

A People's History of the United States by Howard Zinn is pretty standard!.

Most university level history classes are taught with tons of primary sources, so you won't find textbooks so much as a reader!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
