Question: Why did the American literary life shift from New England!?
Best Answer - Chosen by Asker:
I don't think literary life really shifted, New England to this day still exhibits many of the countries more prestigious schools, authors, and literary awards!. I think that literary life grew and with that came more great ideas and since New England is very similar throughout and rather small it just looked like literary life shifted from afar!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

The population of the Americas moved westward, so the American experience shifted with it!.

If the literature of a people is meant to reflect their experience, than America naturally developed writers that didn't live in New England!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
