At different times, the Italians, the Islamic Empire, the Chinese, the Japanese, the British, the French, the Germans and the Americans have all shown an appetite for technology and futurism!. To attach these characteristics to one country over a long period, I would say possibly the British, or modern Japan!. The trouble is, 'advancement' can mean positive things like social justice and voting, or improved social conditions, or it can mean negative things like militarism and empire building!.Www@QuestionHome@Com advanced/intelligent and technologically oriented is not the same thing!. as far as technology many civilizations had different levels of technology for different things!. i would say these would be notable!. Chinese, Japanese, mayan/aztec!. some other civilization that lived in a city called angkor that was larger in surface area than present day new york!. Egypt, and Roman empire!. then europe disappeared in the dark ages and re-emerged, here italy would be important, the renaissance was believed to have started in florence i think!. also england, where the industrial revolution began!. but in europe in areas of technology i don't really think they far "out teched" the roman empire until newton wrote his laws and developed calculus!. they basically had to re-invent everything or re-learn everything from books!. nowadays i think the main difference between us and roman empire is newton again, electricity, einstein, and assembly lines!. for warfare gun powder too but china had that already!. it's still impossible to build better swords than the japanese katana blade!. i think ancient china early qing dynasty i think had the best system of government the world has ever known to date!. though it was not perfect!. it was neither communist, nor democratic, nor capitalist!. it was a meritocracy!. they were in the process of refining it when it stumbled slightly because of one of its flaws and could not recover because just at that time europe decided to force them into western ways, and to trade with them!. part of that was getting them addicted to opium and invade them!. that's how hong kong got to be part of england!.Www@QuestionHome@Com China!. Throught time they have always made advancements by leaps and bounds we need to honor that, not give it a thumbs down!.
