People lost in the mist of time!. Gold is about the easiest metal to find, to mine and to shape; it's always been a great attraction, and appears in most all ancient sites!.

Ancient Greek sources say the richest man then known was the king of Lydia, Croesus of Sardis (an important kingdom in the middle of Turkey!.) He is said to have invented money by being the first to make gold coins!.
