Just S he had no middle name just the initial SWww@QuestionHome@Com

His parents chose "S" as his middle name, in attempt to please both of Harry's grandfathers, Anderson Shippe Truman and Solomon Young; the initial did not actually stand for anything, as was a common practice among Scotts-Irish!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

His middle name is S!. His parents named him this as a compromise since both of his grandfathers' names began with an S!. This way both grandfathers would assume the S was named for him and no ones feeling would be hurt!.
His parents also assumed he could amend his middle initial to whatever he wanted, but he never did!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

This is one of the great questions in U!.S!. history!. One version has it "Solomon," and another has it "Shippe!." One result should be that I got it right first!. Another is that you should sift among historical records and come up with a final answer!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
