Thomas Jefferson was a leading figure for the rebels and actively raised support for the cause among the people!. He was a diplomat, lawyer statesman, inventor and political philosopher!. He is responsible for writing most of the declaration of independence, which was an attempt to explain why the colonists valued liberty, and why they had to separate from the British Empire!. He also wrote other works about liberty and in protest of British rule, such as "A Summary View of the Rights of British America"!. He was one of the biggest minds behind the revolution!.

George Washington often showed up in continental congress in full military gear in an attempt to display his military prowess and eventually received the nomination to be the General of the Continental army (though he pretended he wasn't seeking the appointment)!. Besides his military skill, one of the reasons he was granted this position may be because he was from Virginia!. The rebels had much support from New England and the Mid atlantic region and they wanted to bolster support in the Chesapeake and the South by appointing a Virginian as General!. He held the Continental army together during very tough times, engaging in guerilla warfare and skirmishes until his army delivered the final blow against British General Cornwallis in Yorktown!. Washington helped the rebels succeed in their revolution and unlike many revolutionaries, he did not seek to become a tyrant over the new country but instead favored a republican government which allowed for substantial freedom!. He also set the precedent that Presidents should not serve more than two terms (8 years) in office, because he thought if they stayed longer then they would become Kings!.

Samuel Adams was a militant revolutionary from Massachutsetts!. He was active in protesting the oppression of the American colonies and speaking in favor of liberty!. He was a key figure in the Boston Tea Party, an act of protest against the British Empire!. He was an anti-federalist and supported the Articles of Confederation rather than the Constitution!.

Thomas Paine was a pamphleteer who provided much of the ideological ammunition for the revolution!. His pamplet "Common Sense" outlined the justifications for the revolution, why the colonists objected to monarchy and British rule!. George Washington had his writings read aloud to the soldiers in order to inspire them!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
