America became really disillusioned after WWII!. It was the end of an era, sort of!. Without going into a tirade, WWII was not only the last declared war, but the last war that the people wanted!. It was something that everyone believed in, I suppose!. All the wars since that time have been based in imperialism and economics!. I mean, FDR was one of the last really good presidents we had [Kennedy was okay, too, I guess]!. Think about Vietnam!. Television allowed everyone to see the horrors of war!. I forget exactly who it was, but one of the men in the government in charge of restricting television footage of Vietnam said something to the effect of "if they saw that, no one would want to fight wars anymore!."

Basically, we saw it!. Since WWII we've become disillusioned with our country!. Our wants and their wants are no longer the same!. No one wanted to fight WWII, not even the government, but when we had to, we did!. Nothing is so sacred anymore!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

I think, too, a teenager in the 1940's had a lot less to do!.
He had little or no money, no prospects; but, then this big brilliant event has to occur, where if he enlists, suddenly, he can be a bomber pilot, or a submarine commander, the sky was the limit, just by enlisting!.!.!.
Nowadays, the military is so bloated that if you enlist, you are just a number!. Too, by being such, the military makes too many mistakes and thus millions of Vietnam vets have been exposed to Agent Orange or Radiation, etc!.!. Different today than from WWII!. During WWII we didn't even yet have the Atomic bomb!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

The fact is that the enemies of the 1940's had a better chance of dominating our lives and destroying our way of life than do the radical Muslims of Bin-Laden's ilk do!. Bin laden can make us miserable but I doubt he can destroy our society!. The Axis powers had a better chance to destroy our governments and at least economically dominate the US if not totally conquer it!. Bin Laden and his people clearly are in no position to do so, even if the entire Middle East were to get together, declare him Caliph and march under his banner!. It's a lot easier to band together when you're in mortal danger than when someone is merely a mosquito buzzing around you (even allowing for his spectacular sting of 2001)!.
Plus don't forget the draft was around back then!. When the choice is go to the induction center or go to jail, what are most people going to do!?Www@QuestionHome@Com

ok!.!.!.!.!.!.!. korea/ Vietnam people felt it was none of our business to be there!.!.!.!.!.!. cold war, not a "real war" so most people were okay with it !.!.!.!. war on terrorism, i dont know a single person against that!.!.!.!. and lastly iraq: people hate it (myself included) because
a!. bush lied about the weapons of mass destruction
b!. we made al queda stronger
c!. we took our eyes off the ball (bin laden)
d!. the iraqis dont even want us there

to answer your question: people have patriotism, but war isnt the way to show it!. americans in general are tired of fighting other nation's wars when we have too many problems at home!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
